Adventures from Arizona to Alberta

Transition

Still hot here. Yep. A broken record of record-breaking heat. However, the desert shadows are getting longer and the days shorter, so there’s hope.

Flagstaff color

Last September, we were preparing to head back to Arizona from Canmore—a place where seasons change abruptly. Short sleeves suddenly give way to parkas, hikes become less frequent, temperatures drop and our transition from mountains to desert begins.

And what a glorious change it was.

Dave and I are what we call Reverse Snowbirds—migrating north in the summer and south in the winter. Not this year—even the Canadian geese at our local golf course couldn’t get across the border.

As our friends up north start to pack it in, we desert dwellers are just beginning to venture out—in anticipation of our own fall color and better days ahead.
